Known as the "Fun City Above the Cloud", Genting is home to the country's only land-based casino and three theme parks — outdoor, indoor and water. It is an hour by car from Kuala Lumpur, or reachable by the 3.38 km Genting Skyway cable car.
A planned city 25 km south of Kuala Lumpur serving as the federal administrative centre. The botanical gardens, the Seri Wawasan bridge and an evening cruise through the city are a must do.
Langkawi, the Jewel of Kedah, is an archipelago of 104 islands with long sandy beaches, jungle-clad hills and picturesque paddy fields. Penang pairs Georgetown's heritage streets with beach resorts such as Batu Ferringhi and a religious fusion of temples, churches and mosques.
The Cameron Highlands are a vast area of rolling green hills, tea plantations and jungle trails at 1300–1829 m. Melaka lures visitors to its historic port city with multicultural heritage architecture, museums and distinctive local cooking.
Tioman Island rises from the South China Sea under impenetrable jungle and granite boulders. Taman Negara is reputed to be the oldest tropical rainforest in the world, while Pangkor is a low-key resort island noted for fine beaches and fishing villages.
